It's Summer

Welcome to another summer in Missouri-land.

Around this time each year, after a few weeks
of 90+ degree temps, I want to move. Ironically
I don't want to move to a cooler climate, I want
to move to a warmer region. Here the seasons
are too extreme for me - hot hot hot in the
summers, cold as hell at times in the winters,
snow, ice, tornadoes, wind, hail, etc. etc. etc.
I'd love a warmer climate which can get hot
but not have much of a winter. Deeper south
I guess would be a good pick.

MY choice would be Nevada, living in the mountains.
Hot in the summers, but a dry heat. Very few bugs
and little humidity. Mild winters. It's a very
BIG DEAL if they get any snow. The people there are
more the kind of people I identify with as well.
Probably from living in the southwest for many years.

Just sayin'.
Back to summer in Missouri-land.

HOT

Okay so it's hot.
How hot is it?

Hot hot. But not omg hot.
Necessary to give the garden and flowers tons of water
daily to keep them alive.
Flies are hoarding together in the shade and will
descend upon a poor unsuspecting soul (ME) and bite
the crap out of ME.
One is instantly covered in sweat when walking out
the door.
Worms and toads are frying on the driveway.

YOU will know when it's OMG HOT when:
Your scalp burns in under 5 minutes unprotected.
Flying bugs will automatically get stuck to sweat covered you.
No one has any energy.

What I'll look like come spring

I swore I'd never do it...but not only am I blogging, I'm also on
Facebook and Twitter. Mama mia my internet social life is a busy one!
But winter's coming so there's plenty of time!
I haven't really looked up friends for Facebook, I mean if I don't
care enough to stay in touch with them in real life then why
would I care if they were a Facebook friend? But my little cafe
in there is just chugging along full steam, especially this week
while I'm sick!

The first thing to go in real life when I'm sick is the cooking.
Oh no can't cook! But yet I'll get online and cook for hours, hehe.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Expecting our first frost of the season tonite. Brought in the
one pumpkin still left on the vine. Also picked green peppers and
pulled the plants, and cut down the last peppermint bed.

There are GOOD things about cooler (ok colder weather):
1. No gardening.
2. No bugs.
3. No sweating.
4. It gets darker earlier.
5. A person can start making different things for dinner,
such as soups and chili.
6. Different wardrobe.
7. Hot chocolate is back!

It's hot!

How hot is it?

90 °F
Partly Cloudy
Heat Index:
95 °F
Humidity 53%
You know it's too hot when:
*you've experienced condensation on your butt from the hot water in the toilet bowl.
*you can attend any function wearing shorts and a tank top.
*you discover that it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.
*you notice the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
*you realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
*squirrels are fanning their nuts.

Comedy of errors

There were storms yesterday in the Ozarks. I guess they
thought some of them were going to be severe, as many
tornado warnings were issued all over. After dinner etc.
I started to follow radar (online) with the Weather Channel
and whatnot, to see if anything was coming this way. Around
11pm I was waiting for the ABC local news to come on, and
there were tornado warnings to the west of us. Many storms
travel west to east. No it wasn't an anxiety attack or huge
concern, just wanted a heads up before going to bed and
what not.

I have an old tv in here with a converter box - hehe. Getting
up to do something, then returning, somehow the channel
changed itself (honest) to another channel. I changed it
back. Getting up to do something else then coming back
there was no tv at all. I tried flipping channels and no tv.
So I assumed I did something. Clickety click. Oops.
Somehow the language was now all in Spanish. Trying to
change it back (I don't know enough Spanish to interpret
'Push this button to change languages') didn't work. So
I looked up the converter box online to see what to do.
Then I figured out how to do a channel search in English
(yay). What I DIDN'T know was that several stations
had just been knocked off the air (stupid digital signals
anyhow, why did we have to switch?). So I ended up
with about 4 channels on my tv. (This afternoon had to
do another channel search to get them back, and they're
in English - yay).

While trying to do all of that last night, I wanted an update
on the storms too. I mean, last I left off there were two
or three tornado warnings west of us. Did I need to get
ready to hide soon? Nobody updated anything on their
news websites in the way of watches and warnings. All I
had to go on was radar, and I need a crash course in how
to read that thing! I did end up with one local channel
on the tv (10) that pretty much said the nasty stuff was
over. I could go to bed! Still this morning as a storm
went through (that knocked over my beans and corn)
I laid there listening for sirens (thankfully non existent
sirens).

Today was busy propping plants back to their upright
position :) Someone stopped by today that is going to
be doing some work for us, and when I asked him when
he would start he replied, "Well, waiting on five days
of good weather. These meteorologists do nothing but
lie." OMG I started laughing! (Maybe I need more sleep,
he).

Weather

Wokay.
So yesterday they had been predicting nasty
storms for us. The NWS had us under a moderate
risk, as well as the entire state of Missouri, about
half of Oklahoma, and almost all of Illinois.
So in the garden I covered up the precious plants
I wanted to save with buckets. In the evening
you could see the squall line moving in - weatherman
stated that once it formed a big squall the big
threats were over. At ten pm weatherman stated
that a second line of storms formed, thus weakening
the nasty line, and the big threat was no more. It
was stated that the strongest wind gust recorded
was 30mph and very small hail reported. Ah. I
went to bed.
At 12:15 the storm sirens blaring in the town got
me up. I uttered a four letter word, put on the
slippers, and headed for a television. 5 counties
(including us) were under a tornado warning.
So.
As I sat there staring at an infomercial and waiting
for the warning to expire my mind wandered. I
decided I was getting mighty tired of these types
of storms and wanted to move. But I wanted to move
to an area where the weather was tamer. But where?
So my mind pondered - the upper midwest is out,
too many problems. New England, uhm, no. California
too liberal for my tastes. I have turned into a whiny
butt with cold weather and snow so that let a few
places out. Not into hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes,
rude people and high taxes so that nixes a few more
states. I finally decided before heading back
to bed around 2am that I needed an
uninhabited island somewhere. I will write that on
my Christmas list to Santa.

Trip to the big city today

We made a trip to the big city today -
first a stop at a restaurant supply place
to pick up a grill for a customer, then
we all pigged out at Red Lobster, then
a stop at Gamestop, then Target, then
home. I'm pooped!! Steady rain all the
way up, drizzly rain all the way home.
Rain on tap for well, through May 9th,
which is as far as The Weather Channel
goes - LOL. Rain or shine I AM going
to be out there the middle of next week
planting two more garden beds!

So what happened to spring?

The wind is whipping up to 33mph out there.
Temps dropped over 20 degrees the past
ten hours. Freeze warnings out for the next
three nights. My poor baby lettuce is all
wrapped up snuggly tight in an old comforter,
where they will be the next few nights. All
we need is snow!! Did I say that? Oh yes,
there is the possibility of flurries sometime in
all of this. Oh did I mention the wind is whipping
down all of the ice storm debris leftovers that
were stuck in the trees? WAH.
